ポストコロナ時代の到来に伴い、グローバル化が加速しています。言語は、この社会変革に伴って必要性が高まりつつある多様な文化や価値観の理解や異文化コミュニケーションを支える上で不可欠なものです。最近ではAI技術の進歩により、自動翻訳や音声認識などのツールが利用可能になりましたが、言語学習は、情報の伝達に留まらず、共感や感情表現などの非言語的要素も含めたコミュニケーション能力の習得において、その重要性は変わることはありません。

 

島根大学は、教育ビジョンにおいて「国際感覚とコミュニケーションスキルを育成するグローバル教育を提供する」ことを目標に掲げています。その目標の達成のため、外国語教育センターでは、学生がグローバルな視点を持ち、多文化共生時代におけるリーダーシップを発揮するためのコミュニケーション能力が身につくよう、以下の3点を重点とした外国語学習の支援を行っていきます。

 

１．外国語学習科目の充実：
英語、ドイツ語、フランス語、中国語、韓国語を含む必修の科目に加え、留学生を対象とした日本語科目や実用的な副専攻コースを提供し、学生のニーズやレベルに合わせた学習環境を整備します。

 

２．学習支援の拡充：
松江キャンパスの「外国語ワークステーション」や出雲キャンパスの英語学習室「eクリニック」を中心に、学生の学習をサポートする体制を整えます。また、eラーニング環境の充実を図り、より幅広い学習機会を提供します。

 

３．海外研修の充実：

国際センターとの連携により、海外研修や留学プログラムを充実させ、学生が世界を身近に感じながら、異文化への理解と尊重を深める機会を提供します。

 

開設以来20年間の歴史を誇る当センターでは、優れたスタッフと共に、学生の皆さんが将来のコミュニケーション能力の礎を築くお手伝いをしてまいります。

Greetings from the Director of the Center

 

As we navigate the post-Covid-19 era, the pace of globalization is accelerating. Now more than ever, languages play a vital role in fostering cross-cultural understanding and communication, crucial for navigating our increasingly diverse world. While advancements in AI technology offer tools like automatic translation and speech recognition, the importance of language learning extends beyond mere information transfer to encompass vital communication skills, including empathy and emotional expression.

 

At Shimane University, our educational vision is centered around providing a global education that nurtures international awareness and communication skills. To achieve this vision, the Center for Foreign Language Education is dedicated to supporting language learning through the following key initiatives:

 

1. Enhancement of Foreign Language Courses:
   In addition to lessons in English, German, French, Chinese and Korean, we offer Japanese lessons for international students, a variety of elective lessons, and practical minor courses tailored to meet students' diverse needs and proficiency levels.

2. Expansion of Learning Support:
   We are establishing robust support systems for student learning, with focus areas including the "Foreign Language Workstation" on Matsue Campus and the "e-Clinic" English learning support room on Izumo Campus. Furthermore, we are enhancing our e-learning environment to provide a more extensive array of learning opportunities.
    
3. Enhancement of Overseas Training:
   Through collaboration with the International Center, we are enriching our overseas training and study abroad programs. These opportunities will enable students to gain firsthand experience with different cultures, fostering deeper understanding and respect.

With a rich history over the past 20 years, the Foreign Language Education Center, along with its dedicated staff, is committed to helping students build the foundation for their future communication skills.
